Veterans with qualifying conditions can get a free 329 Hawaii Medical Cannabis Card certification at an event in Chinatown on Sunday, Jan. 14.
The "329 Veteran Stand Down" event will be held from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. at the Honolulu Office Center at 1110 Nuuanu Avenue.
This is the first industry-coordinated event of its kind, organized by Complementary and Alternative Medicine on Oahu (CAMO), a local nonprofit organization helping veterans and their families manage chronic illness such as PTSD with medical cannabis among other holistic-based therapies; Hawaii Dispensary Alliance (HDA); Malie Cannabis Clinic; Mended Minds Hawaii; Aloha Green Apothecary, Oahu's first medical cannabis dispensary; Steep Hill Hawaii, the industry's main state-sanctioned independent cannabis testing lab; Noa Botanicals, Honolulu's newest dispensary; and Weedmaps, the popular national cannabis online hub.
Veterans looking to get certified for their 329 cards must bring medical records documenting their qualifying condition(s) and a valid, government-issued photo ID. Evaluations, which usually range from $150 to $200, will have their fees waived and be completed by Me Fuimaono-Poe, APRN-RX, medical director of Malie Cannabis Clinic, Abby Amirdash, APRN-RX, of Malie Cannabis Clinic, and Dr. Thomas Cook, MD, medical director of Mended Minds Hawaii.
Veterans will only need to pay for the $38.50 registration fee for the Department of Health. A total of 60 evaluations will be completed on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the day.
The free, all-day community event is open to all and will provide general medical cannabis education, bring together local veteran organizations, hold expert talks, and feature local musicians Ron Artis II and The Truth.
Speakers include Dr. Sue Sisley and Ed Rosenthal, two world-renowned leaders in medical cannabis. Dr. Sue Sisley, a leading researcher in cannabis, runs the first federally-approved clinical trial on the effectiveness of medical cannabis in treating veterans with PTSD. She is also the medical director of Noa Botanicals, a local Oahu dispensary. Ed Rosenthal is a pioneer and early advocate of the cannabis movement who has worked with state and local governments to implement medical cannabis programs. He is the author of numerous cannabis cultivation and horticulture books that have paved the way for countless growers.

-Cancer
-Glaucoma
-Lupus
-Epilepsy
-Multiple Sclerosis
-Rheumatoid Arthritis
-Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
-Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
-Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
-Cachexia or wasting syndrome
-Severe pain
-Severe nausea
-Crohn's disease
-Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
