In a major victory for medical marijuana patients, a Los Angeles jury
acquitted Sister Somayah Kambui on all counts today. Somayah, who uses
marijuana for her sickle cell anemia, was charged with cultivation and
four other marijuana-related charges. She freely admitted to growing
marijuana for herself and other sickle cell patients.
This is the first acquittal of a Prop. 215 patient-provider in
Southern California. "Let this be a message to the government that
Californians are fed up with efforts to enforce obsolete marijuana laws,"
commented California NORML coordinator Dale Gieringer.
