Welcome and thanks for joining me!:welcome:
This is my first journal so please afford me your patience as I find my way in the process and I'll try to be concise and not test that patience.:thanks:

The story:
I've been around (and sometimes even a part of) cannabis grows for a good number of years but only struck out completely on my own just this year. This will be my first grow sharing neither creative control nor responsibility for what it brings by way of final product. I'm both excited for and respectfully cautious of this :bitingnails: Also, I'm starting this journal late - about 2 weeks in - so I'll be depositing some catch up pictures and notes today in my first few posts.

The first thing I'd like to share in this journey is my initial assessment of the tent I selected. The Gorilla brand tent was rather expensive but since putting it up a couple weeks ago, I've developed a sense of total satisfaction that I have purchased the best made tent on the market. The material is hands down the toughest feeling stuff I've found a grow tent to be made of and the layout is intuitive, as though it had been designed by a seasoned grower. Drawstrings both inside and outside of each vent allow for a quality seal on the environment and help to keep cords and ducting in place. The metal the frame is made of did not disappoint and snapped together with the greatest of ease; no tools or fasteners required. If you are selecting a tent, I highly recommend looking into the Gorilla brand before deciding. I simply cannot say enough good things here.

Back to the plants - I used this soil mixture last year when I did a greenhouse co-op grow in my backyard. We found the mixture to be so rich in nutrients that we had to refrain from feeding anything we planted in if for about 2 weeks after transplanting. Otherwise, they suffered some pretty nasty burn. Once we figured this out, we simply waited to start the feeding regime and have been very happy with the soil mixture's ability to support and stimulate the new cutting's growth. This year, I'm using the same mixture for my indoor grow and at 2 weeks in the stuff, the plants are looking great. As of today (11/25/15) they have been watered twice, once with 1/2 strength nutes and I cannot be more pleased with them. I had originally planned to ScrOG but last minute troubleshooting (which continues to this minute, unfortunately) ate up the time to get it in place and I feel like I've missed the window. Also, I am not experienced with ScrOG growing beyond what I've read here and have some concerns about whether it is as effective for clones as it is for growing from seed. Feedback on this is welcome and appreciated.

On to the plant porn!

If I've done this all correctly, what follows should be some photos of the cuttings as I received them and some of the equipment setup.

Again, thanks for taking the time to look and to share advice or encouragement. Throughout the day today I will add setup photos and fill in plant photos/updates for the missing time between planting and now.

Thanks for the good word, oldergrower (or is it wisergrower?) I'll take a peek at your girls, for sure. It's like free college in here :reading420magazine:

Lookin good Dave!! I think if you ar e gonna veg for a while longer you could definitely set up a scrog. I personally have never done it but from what I understand the girl gets vegged for a few months.

Welcom3!!:welcome::passitleft:

I'm going to be running some BD in the not so far future, I'll be sitting in for this one if you don't mind.

Thanks for the input, Grimm =)
I got busy with Thanksgiving and didn't get as far in catching up the journal as I had planned but hope to get it done this morning. I'll get pictures through today put up and see what you think about scrogging given their current state. I don't think it's necessarily too late but it could be.....I'll hope for some wisdom from the community on that subject.
Thanks for joining me on the trip, brotha. I'm glad to have you along.

CATCHING UP

Without further ado, here is some of the prep and equipment setup for this grow-

Message_1446490086173.jpg

This is what I started with. Uncovered walls, concrete floor and crumbling drywall ceiling with poor power.

We cleaned up and doubled the 120v outlets and added a 240v circuit with an outlet on each wall. Running the light on 240v dropped the draw from 5.2 amps to 2.6 which will make for

Freshly covered walls - clean and mean and ready to grow some serious green =)

Next we covered the ceiling with 2" bead board from my local hardware store. $12 to insulate it all.

Up goes the tent.

Enter hood and scrubber and we're ready to start running the ducting.

Built some nifty racks that will allow a slide in watering pan for easy feeding.

Glad to have you =)

OK, today I am putting up the photos I took between 11/17 and yesterday. Unfortunately, the group photos of all 4 plants together are coming out at just over the size limit for uploading so all I have is the individual shots until I figure out resizing.

The odd tint to the photos is the light warming up at 50%. My photos are generally taken under 100%.

Now things are getting interesting. The girls have had time to take advantage of their first feeding (11/20 - half strength) and have loved it. They are a little on the droopy side because they were getting a bit dry at this point.

Can't figure for the life of me why these photos won't change orientation for me =(

With this post, I am finally caught up. The girls received their first full strength feeding the evening of the 27th and are looking good. I am considering topping them at this point. Any thoughts?

The garage is cold. Concrete floor, poor insulation, etc.....it's just plain damned cold. My corner is well insulated on the outer 2 walls and the ceiling but the inner 2 walls are just tarps hanging down and the floor is cold ass concrete. I put a large piece of new carpet remnant under the tent and tucked a little 4" heater/fan combo in the corner of the tent, which raised the temperature to a healthy point, but according to my Ambient Weather WS-07, the humidity is getting painfully low when the temperature gets up where it should be. Any thoughts on that? I'm noticing a big variation in the temp/humidity the unit reports based on where in the tent I place the sensor....... :hmmmm:

Hey Dave,
Just what I suspected. On bare concrete out in the garage. My neighbor grew in his garage the 1st few years and had the same issues as you. May I suggest if you can get something under the tent to get it off the concrete. Pick up a sheet of plywood then put down a lay of carpet over the top of the plywood. a few layers would even be better. The concrete is literally sucking the heat out of your tent. You need to insulate your tent from the concrete. Even a sheet of that insulation with the tinfoil on each side they sell at home depot would work. I think if you insulate your tent from the floor and keep the heater going you should be ok with over night temps.

I've got a piece of carpet under the tent, but that's it and I suspect you are correct; the cold concrete is killin me =(
I'm considering tracking down some of those lock-together rubber squares they cover gym floors with and putting that over the concrete and then carpet over that. But there still is the RH problem. As of this morning, I'm successfully keeping the tent temperature in the safe range all the way through the night, but still hovering down around 30% RH (at this exact moment it is 70.5 degrees and 34% RH) which seems low to me for vegging. I could cut out the scrubber and pipe my exhaust air into the light from outside of the tent, possibly causing the interior to retain more moisture, but then there will also be less exchange of the air inside the tent and without CO2 supplementation, I worry about too rich an environment. I'm not sure if I can have my cake and it too......but I'd like to =)

Mmmmmmmm cake

Get a rubber horse stall mat, maybe a humidifier.

Good idea. I bet I get a better bargain buying a stall mat than buying the gym mats, too.
