Ixixsu's Micro Grow - 22W DIY LED - DWC - Unknown Strain

Hello everyone, here's my journal. I'm not very experienced to growing, yet no amateur. Decided to do a micro grow after couple of years absence of growing. I'm doing this for fun, so we'll see how it goes.

I build a small chamber in a pc chassi where i will both veg and flower. It's complete with a bubbler, scrubber and ~22w of non top bin leds. I decided to use the Osram golden dragon leds for the easy acess and slim design.

I have a single 120mm fan for outtake of unkown capacity and it keeps the case at 84F or 28C. Theres also one 120mm fan keeping the heatsink cool to the touch, im very happy with the temperature achieved and hopes it stays this way.

The strain is freebies from Seedsman. They are unmarked but i have a slight memory of them being 2x blueberry feminized seeds. I can't verify but we'll see once i get into flowering if they're feminized or if im just lucky. I used the paper method and they popped after 2 days. Put directly into rockwool and into the bubbler.

I use GHE nutes grow, bloom and micro. Im running the bubbler at ~350 ppm from day 1, the water had around 150 before any nutes. I will up as i go on. The first week i kept ph steady around 5,8-6,0. But i've decided to let it go up to 6,5 before taking it down once more hoping to cure yellow spots on leafs. Rh is at 35% i will not try to raise this at any point. I check levels daily.

Alright let's get to the pictures;

I use a small standard PSU wich i soldered a wire to so i can use a single intake cable.

The passive intake will be one of these. The box is not 100% lightproof, but close to it. With a few tweaks it would be no problem getting there.

Heres the led panel. It uses 3x 6500ks 2x royal blue 6x 623 red 6x 660 red. Uses 43,8V fed with 500mA wich should draw 21,9w give or take some. I have not verified it. How many lumens it puts out i have no idea, osram choose to not release the chips based on bins and therefor its hard to calculate a good number.

The scrubber. It's pretty big and should let air through without a hassle.

Dressed with mylar, im happy with how it turned out. The space i have to work with is ~7,5x10,5x16,5 inch or 19x27x42 cm. It's a small space but we'll see how it turns out.

The bubbler. I tried using airstones but i was very unhappy with the amound of noice it made so i decided to simply drill some small holes in the standard silicone tube since the sound was alot more quite with more resistance, it still makes more noice than i would like to but its alot better. Maybe i will do dirt for next grow, then it would barely put out any sound.

Here is where i started counting days. I call it day 2, becouse i forgot how many days since it popped.

Day 7 you can see some small yellow spots on the leaf of the bigger grill. I have yet to collect the experience to know what this is, if anyone have some ideas they sure would be welcome.

Day 10 I'm surprised by the low amound of stretch. They're sitting about 4 inch, 10 cm from leds.
Yellow spots now on both grills.

I think that was all, feel free to throw me some questions if i missed anything. Happy growing to all of you.

Day 11 still some defency of some sort starting to show more and more. I raised the ppm level to 500 and calibrated my ph meter. It's been laying on a shelf for a couple of years, about time i guess. Been searching the net for what nutrient defency that might be causing it and boron is probably where it's at.

Awesome Diy bro. Subbed  You should start a thread to help others with the building of pc cases and led's. Many people would not only benefit but also appreciate you for it!!! Either way..... let it rip!

Day 14

The newer leafs are starting to look more happy than the old ones, one of the plants seems to get along much better than the other one, the smaller one also have a weird looking leaf. Raised the ppm to 800 today, will let them get around 1 more week then i'll put them on 12/12.

Switched to 12/12 day 23. Trimmed off much of the bigger fan leaves wich still had some sort of defency. My fim did not turn out very well it seems hehe, next time i'll just let them grow.

Day 23, they look so small without all the big ugly leafs.

No signs of flowers yet. The grills look alot more happy right now, i dont know what i did wrong in the start, maybe underfeeding? Raised the ppm to 1500 day 23 and they seem to like it. They're starting to fill out the box nicely, still have alot of room height wise.

So happy i've rid myself of all the ugly defencys. :thumb:

Alright here we go again. Ran in to some troubles with the light, it seems there is some fault in the wiring somewhere, when the psu is running the light emitt a small amount of light. It seems to be enough to keep the plants from flowering. Right now i solved by only having the fans running when the light is on, perhaps it will smell a little, but atleast now i can't tell with my eyes that the leds do emitt any lights when turned off.

Is this a common problem when using timers? did not think of taking a picture sadly, but when the timer was off there was a very slight light in the diodes. Enough for me to tell wich were reds, blues and whites. It only occured when the timer was on off mode. When i pulled the cable they turned off fine.

Anyway right now theres some pistils showing, i would hope the plant have jumped into flowering and its not just preflowers. Been around 5 days since i did some fixing to the wiring. Ladies are getting quite big now after 40 days of vegging, but i think it wont be a big problem. I will just continue to tie them down and trim leafs that gets to large.

Happy new year to y'all. :thumb:

Is this grow still alive?

We would love to be updated with some pictures and info.

How about posting a 420 Strain Review?

If you need any help with posting photos, please read our Photo Gallery Tutorial.

I am moving this to Abandoned Journals until we get updates.
