Here We Grow Again: LALG's 2018 4x4 DWC LED

Here we grow a"grin"

Strain: Charlie Sheen aka Tigers Blood (photo, 183 days old), Purple Express Auto's, that's all, for now.
Setup: DWC in a 4x4x8 Gorilla Grow Tent, 2x20 gallon totes, 6'' carbon filter and fan for exhaust, Temp controlled room
Lighting: 2x600 watt Viparspectra LED's
Current Stage: All Flowering, for about 3-5 weeks, not sure. (Life's crazy, bad record keeping can be a result :;):)
Charlie Sheen vegged for about 140-150 days in his DWC tote. He was vegging the whole time the Purple Express Auto's were doing their thing. I had to finally flip to 12/12, Charlies was just getting massive. Luckily he is indica dominant and not a huge stretcher but the switch has definitely hurt the auto yield but I don't think it has effected the potency much, still lots of trichs.
Things have settled down a bit allowing me some extra time to spend with the ladies and my 420 family.
Nutes: General Hydroponics Flora line, CalMag, Z7
Temps: Lights on 73-77, Lights off 65 degrees
Ph-5.9-6.1
PPM's-380-550
Pests: Unfortunately I have been battling the dreaded spider mite. I have employed alcohol then azamax to help. The mite population has been greatly decreased since I first noticed them but there are still a few hanger on's. I am continuing treatment as instructed in hopes to eradicate them completely. I am considering diatomaceous Earth and doktor doom bombs as well. Any experience with any of these products team? (I am borrowing that term from tryan2grow1, thanks buddy)

Ok, now that is out of the way. I finally got time to start another journal. The first time around was a blast and I'm hoping for a lot more fun to come. My ten ounces from my last grow is running out but I do have a wee bit of Purple I harvested last week. 2 day cure, oh yeah lol. This Charlie is a beast. Only an inch or two shorter than I am (in his tote, of course) His trunk is massive. You have to see it lol. The Purps are all maturing at different paces. They are from seeds I created using colloidal silver. I just had to try them out. I have also ran a colloidal silver on a Charlie Sheen clone to preserve the strain since it cannot be bought on any seed sites. Apparently no breeder has taken credit for creating this strain, officially. I got it in a bag years ago and it was some great herb. I have small topped clone of charlie growing in a closet under a 300 watt LED in a 6 gallon tote. I stuck him in there as my colloidal silver run was finishing up, kind of hoping he would pollinate for even more seed but I think it was past the point when the pollen was potent. I am thinking about getting rid of him and adding the other light to my main tent but I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I may leave it the way it is and run another auto for seeds, I have a white widow, pineapple express, and purple mazar I need to make seeds from.

Strain Specifics

Charlie Sheen aka Tigers Blood - Charlie Sheen is an indica-dominant hybrid, parented by Green Crack, OG Kush, and Blue Dream. These lemon-scented buds taste likewise, with a distinct undercurrent of kush. The effects are relaxing and uplifted, with a lengthy, sleepy come-down great for pain relief and insomnia. (Leafly)

Purple Express Auto
Sex: Feminized
Type: Indica & Sativa
Flowering: Autoflowering
Area: Indoor & Outdoor
Flowering Time: 60 days
Purple Express Auto flowering is an amazing fusion of the latest auto-flowering developments with vigorous, high yielding genetics. And what's more, she is a stunner; cloaked in purple she's the queen of the crop. (Attitude)

And here is where we stand at the moment...

Purple Express Auto, harvested 11/15, jarred 11/17 - Not super proud of how this one turned out. Harvested a bit early and had to be on 12/12 light cycle for the last few weeks of life. As I mentioned earlier, I think that contributed to it being light and stemmy. The trichs are bountiful though, should be an interesting few bowl packs lol. I don't know how much there is total but it is probably around 10-14 grams.

Purple Express Auto Stem - I grew 4 of these ladies I created with colloidal silver. 3 of the 4 topped themselves very early in life. I'm not sure why, anyone have any idea what would make them do that?

Charlie Sheen (Colloidal Silver) He had a really hard life. Spider Mites galore. He was awash with them. I will never make that mistake again. I saw the signs and thought it was a nutrient deficiency. But now I know more about pests than I ever have before and I am taking measures to prevent any further infestations.

Big Charlie lost a lot of leaves/bud sites during the great mite invasion of 2017. He underwent major surgery but it was for his own good, had to get rid of those eggs and infested leaves. I haven't seen many since he started flowering but I am still being vigilante. There is more that needs done to safe guard against these little boogers. I think that about covers everything. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Feel free to follow along in the fun as well, the more the merrier! I'm open to all hints, suggestions, insights, and constructive criticism's! Let the fun begin!

Happy Growing All!

Everything seems ok in the tent this eve. Found a little bugger hanging out on a lower leaf. Damn mites. I cut the leaf and got his mugshot, y'all keep an eye out and shoot on site lol. Ph and ppm's are in order, not much change there. I have been moving my lights back and forth everyday to get the light all around the plants. It looks like I will need an additional light or two to realllly fill it out in there. I must say I am quite pleased with the Gorilla Tent so far. Heavy duty, no scent, no light leaks, and the zippers work great. It has definitely been well engineered, I can hang off the top :)

Anyway, here are the shots of the suspect...

Ugh these thing give me the creeps. I hate to think they are up there feasting on my beauties. I'll end on a better note, a shot of the Purple Express in it's rightful place...

The ladies got another azamax bath just before lights out this eve. I didn't see any live mites tonight. When these ladies finish up I will be using Doktor Doom foggers and I will be getting diamascous earth. These things need eradicated before I start my next adventure. I'm thinking CKS Cali OG/Haze or 707 Headband but that's tbd, have to get through this one first. Who knows what I may end up with after black friday. If you didn't already know, Seedsman, site sponsor, is having a sale that includes up to 8 free seeds plus their normal freebies. It would be a great time to expand that seed collection!

I remembered to snap some shot after lights out. Hopefully my photography skills come back to me lol. Back to practicing, got to get back in the monthly contests lol. Glad I got a new journal going it helps me keep way better track of the girls.

All good in the hood tonight. Started the flush on Purp 1 yesterday. He won't have much time in there though, he will be getting harvested very soon. The week of azamax treatments is over, I may do another round of alcohol and water but idk what to do exactly. I feel like I should do something. I'm afraid to do to much because everything is flowering. Any suggestions? I didn't see any mites tonight but I'm sure they're still in there hiding somewhere. At least they aren't the specialized kind with 2 dots. Have to look on the bright side :blalol:

Just a few photos this evening...

Cannot wait to see how Charlie is going to fill out. Looks like potential to be some big dense colas. This will be my last "bagseed" anything, most likely. I have quite a little seed collection going. When I look into my crystal ball, I see Cali Og Haze (CKS) staring back at me :cheesygrinsmiley:

Made a minor adjustment in the garden this eve. Added another LED to the mix in the main tent. It's the 300 watt light I had been using to run my colloidal silver experiments. Charlie is growing so tall he was blocking the corners of the tent a little bit. It looked like some more light would help. Plus it couldn't hurt to raise my watt per square foot.

I was at 540 actual watts in a 4x4 so that would be 540/16=33.75 watts per square foot. Right?

Add in the 132 watts from the new LED, that would bring me too 672 actual watts so 672/16=42 watts per square foot. Right?

Did I do that right? My tent is 4wx4lx8h.

I forgot to add, I watered Charlie today and raised his ppm's up to 752 (from around 375). He was hungry. It's been 8 days since the last water change. He has drank around 5 or 6 gallons over that time. His ph has remained pretty steady and his ppm's have been dropping.

Just going to leave this here for quick reference :)

Thanks Weezze! I've never seen any other buds in person that are that purple. They are so cool!

I harvested purp 1 today after a five day flush. Her ppm's stayed low throughout the grow so she should be tasty and smooth. I don't have any scales so I can't get a weight at this point. If I venture to the store I'll pick some up while I'm out. Purp 1 stayed pretty green for the most part, the other 4 got pretty dark. Here are some pre harvest pics in her flush can.

I bud backed the head bud on this lady. Not much of a difference but the buds are denser than the first Purple I harvested. It won't have a long cure, I'm out lol. This is one that topped itself at a very young age. You can see where I snipped off some sample branches from the middle of her. Going to start the flush on Purp 2 soon, today or tomorrow. She actually has some amber trichs already which is surprising because her pistils just started turning darker and are still just about 40% dark pistils.

Quick photo update on water change day. Ph dropped down to 5.3 overnight. I can't believe how much Charlie is drinking. 4 gallons in as many days! I upped the nutes. PPM's are at 550, crazy high, right? Lol! With the added LED it raised my tent temps up tp 86f yesterday. I adjusted the ac and intake fan and it dropped it down to 82f today. I'd like it to be 79f but 82f shouldn't hurt anything I don't think. Res temps are still below 70f. Doktor Doom foggers on the way. Next water change I will probably pull out my plants and bomb the room/tent without the plants in there.

Charlie has been drinking it up again. At least another gallon gone. Dropped his ph to so I raised it back up a few points. The humidity is getting too high at night. 76%! The ac unit I have has a "dry" function. I'm going to try it out tonight and see if it helps. I guess I know where that gallon of water is going. As far as Purp 2 goes, I'm just letting her go as long as I can. The flush will start very soon. A few pics for your enjoyment.

Well the "dry" mode on the ac dropped the humidity down to around 58%. It also dropped the temp down to 57f! I imagine that is a bit colder than they need to get. I am going to try a few other things to see if I can get it just right.

Back into ac mode tonight. Just got too cold last night. Humidity before lights out was around 35%, an hour and a half later it is up to 63% :icon_roll Temps won't get nearly as low tonight, the ac is set at 67f. We shall see in the morning. Snapped some pics at lights out. Got some decent ones with the lights on. I forgot how pretty they can be under the led with a flash up close. Oh, haven't seen any sign of mites in the tent for a few days. Finger crossed!

Its looking MIGHTY frosty in here. The purple in those buds is incredible. I wouldnt be able to look away from them. Im late but Ill hang around if you dont mind! :) Happy growing

Welcome Freak! You're right on time brother. I will probably have this journal going all of 2018. Trying to get semi perpetual type grow going. Should be lots of fun! Expect lots of pics. I will be practicing up for the contests and posting possible entries here, as soon as my photography skills return lol. The purps are crazy! I have never seen anything else in person that looks like them. Talk about bag appeal, which is funny because none of it will ever be in a bag lol. She won't be around much longer. She is going to start the flush today :cheesygrinsmiley:
