750W HSO Amherst Sour Diesel Coco Grow - Day 35 Flowering

Been lurking forums for years now, soaking up all the positive vibes & information.. And figured it was time to do some posting of my own ;). I'm immensely grateful to all the wonderful folk who've been posting helpful information over the yrs. It's been a wonderful, enlightening, blissful journey..delving into the world that is Growing Cannabis.

Currently running a small(ish) setup compared to my usual, and giving the girls a bit less attention than I usually do.. but nonetheless they're coming along nicely. All of these plants were from freebie seeds I had lying around.

4 Plants under a 1k dimmed to 750W in a roughly 4x4 space
3 HSO Amherst Sour D's
1 Herbies Afghan Freebie

Plants are handfed in 2 gallons of straight coco in fabric pots, topped once and some light LST. Currently at the end of Week 5 of Flowering (Day 35 from switch). I allowed a bit of salt buildup to occur, and had some minor issues with lockout as is apparent in the leaves.. But the ASD's are developing very nicely.

For those interested in the Amherst Sour Diesel: I'm pleasantly surprised by it's performance thus far. I have 3 phenos out of 3 seeds, though they are very homogeneous as far as smell, growth pattern, and bud structure so far. For a sativa dom (supposedly) it is quite stocky, and grows and looks like an indica dom. It's not too picky on the nutes either (though I always feed light). The buds themselves have a very sweet/sour/earthy smell to them, though I expect that to change and develop further as their flavors become more refined in the coming wks. Stems smell like putrid, fuely, skunky chemicals..and I mean that in the best way possible. It's that absolutely foul smelling, but you can't stop smelling it.. kind of smell. Phenos 1 and 3 have the best bud structure so far, where as pheno 2 is a bit leafier (slight over nitrification on my part) but all three are resinous and stanky.

The herbies afghan freebie has been a pain in my ass since the day it sprouted (and this is the beefiest out of 8 afghan freebies I popped), to be honest lol.. It is sensitive to everything and never rly is satisfied with whatever I give it. It's ugly as all hell, but to be fair, I have to give it some credit----you can't fucking kill this thing. I tried light feeding, heavy feeding, medium feeding, the lockout hit it pretty hard.. and it came out looking like a damn charlie brown christmas tree. So yeah its a monster, but its producing some dense little nuggets behind its hideous foliage with OK resin coverage..so we'll see ;). Stems smell like typical skunk, with earthy tones. Nothing special odor wise so far. Hoping it will be some good night time meds for me in any case.

So hello everyone, enjoy the photos! I welcome comments, suggestions, criticisms, questions, and simple hellos :D my next grow will be done right proper in a 5x9 tent with 2 hoods, all coco and 100% TLC.. but for now, I will try to keep this journal updated as often as I can. :peace:

Update - Day 38 Flowering

Plants are budding heavily now, and things are gettin mighty frosty and absolutely reekin out the place :cheesygrinsmiley:

Upon smelling the buds of Pheno 1 of the Amherst Sour.. it smells of sour chemicals, lemons, and some underlying earthy funkiness. Probably the most sativa influenced of the 3 ASD's, with a looser bud structure and longer spacing between the buds, looks to be the lowest yielder of the three.. but its still too early to be sure.

Pheno 2 is 100% sugary sweet smelling, reminiscent of grape soda and old time bubblegum..no sourness to her aroma at all atm. Maybe the most indica influence here. Looks like its gonna be a massive yielder (bud structure reminds me of a big bud hybrid I grew a few yrs back) of very dense buds all the way up and down its thick stems. Lowest calyx to leaf ratio of the three phenos.. but verrry stinky, and resinous (maybe just a bit less frosty than the other 2).

Pheno 3 is the golden child in my eyes.. it maintains the best qualities of the other two phenos (both in growth and in flavor/resin production/bud structure). Smell is about 80% sour funky lemon exactly like pheno 1, but with just a touch of sweetness to balance out the aroma. Impressive calyx to leaf ratio and looks to be a solid yielder as well.

And the affie is still plowin along..doesnt really have any smell to her, buds are tiny but very dense. Interested to see what she'll look like by the end.

Heres some closeups on some of the small nugs :>

Day 49 of Flower

Plants are packing on some nice weight and reekin somethin vicious. The afghani is budding vigorously now despite having some issues earlier, dense dense crowny dark green nugs and an old school look/smell to her..not bad all things considered. the asd's still beating the affie in overall performance but im a sucker for some old school hashy goodness

Welcome marz. my impression of the ASD is that its a bit of a slow grower, and its a stocky plant with an avg amount of stretch, not picky on the nutes at all. total cal/mag whore though. seem to be indica in stature and growth rate, but i have a hunch the effects will be mostly cerebral. My chemmy pheno #1 is the definite keeper of the run, and tbh you could pull this pheno at 7 weeks if you had to. very oily, reeks of that signature chemmy funk, and really nice lookin calyx formations on her. I didnt take any cuttings, cause to be honest ive run a lot of chem hybrids lately and Im on to other things for now.. but you could def find a solid pheno pretty easily in a pack of these. worth at least 1 run if youve got the space, and easily perfected by the 2nd run imo. will hold some more judgment til I sample the smoke but for now Id give it a 7/10, def recommendable but not mindblowingly amazing. i did only have 3 seeds to pop, though. just my 2 cents

plannin on harvesting the ASD's and affie at ~9 weeks, maybe a bit later. snuck in after lights out and took some quick shots under regular lighting.. plants started fading a bit early, but no worries. the meds are gonna be fire. the ghani is gonna be lower potency but hopefully high in CBD and sedating as fuck. horrible insomnia here. and i only have this one little bud left of my keeper pheno of RD's Cornbread..i lost the mother sadly :(

as this grow nears completion..got Madd Farmers NL#5xTripoli Wicked(Lavender x Purple Urkle) and Big worms 97 Blue MoonshinexPurple NL#5 f3's above ground atm. 6/10 madds germed and 13/13 for the bigworms. should be some dank in there for sure. looking for a solid indica mother for breeding purposes.. will start another journal for those at some point.

but i digress, heres the photos>>

Harvest day update/pics

So here we are, the glorious harvest :ganjamon:! chopped the plants about 2 days ago. the afghan didnt seem to want to stop throwin pistils,
the ASD's could have gone an extra week I think. but at ~9 weeks they were certainly within the harvest window, albeit on the early side
(though i usually like my buds harvested slightly early rather than later for a clearer, more functional, medicated high)

I quick dried some buds from the ASD's, but havent tried the affie yet. Even after a quick dry, the buzz is incredible. Smoke is super acrid.

The high: Clear headed functional euphoria that comes on in waves. Feel it strong in the face, with a light body sensation.
Strong mental focus/creativity/energy alongside a completely blissed out, and uplifted mental state. Solid sativa dom effects,
Amazing for depression and stress. Easy to get lost in music or whatever it is you're getting into, and sometimes this can lead to spacing out
but if you need to switch focus to something else
you're very much in control, its very lucid. Its one of those highs that makes life pleasurable in every way, reminds me of the Sour D
I used to get..but the amherst is a bit more mellow

will update after buds are completely dried with some photos of the finished product, yield, and continuation of the smoke report.

Thanks J! same here, 100% wish I had taken a few cuttings of the ASD. they were the only beans ive run from HSO, and definitely solid enough to interest me in their other gear.. have always heard good things about their blue dream. always too many strains, too little time to run them all

Re: 750W HSO Amherst Sour Diesel Coco Grow - Final Update - Bud pics

Final Update & Smoke Report

Pheno #1 of the ASD:

Flavor: Chem, Pine, citrus funk. No sweetness here. Very authentic Sour D flavor that lingers on the tongue.

Effect: Full on head rush, felt strongly in the face. Very uplifting, energetic, focused, aroused, and blissed out. 80/20 Sativa dom effects, with just a touch of indica to keep your muscles relaxed. Amazing for depression, anxiety, and social activities. 10/10 daytime medicine, very potent.

Yield: 51.8g ~ 1.85 oz

Pheno #2 of the ASD:

Flavor: Sweet and Sour funk. Tastes sour with an earthy hashy flavor there as well.

Effect: While the Sour D's cerebral effects can be felt, in this pheno they are dominated by a strong, mellow body buzz. not energizing at all. Good for stress, pain, and a lazy afternoon. 60/40 indica dom effects. above average potency.

Yield: 51.7g ~ 1.84 oz

Pheno #3 of the ASD:

Flavor: Chem, pine, citric notes with an underlying skunky sweetness.

Effect: Warps the mind and relaxes the body. About 50/50 hybrid effects. Not couch locked but very relaxed muscles. Cerebral effects are present and very smooth, no rush. Very uplifting, pacifying, spacey, not very focused. Very potent. Good for stress, minor pain, arousal, and kicking back and tripping out to some music.

Yield: 61.5g ~ 2.19 oz

Afghani Freebie:

Flavor: Lightly sweet, earthy, hashy with a touch of spice. Not pungent, but pleasant.

Effect: Very stony (as expected). Starts in the face and quickly spreads downwards into a full body melt. Great for insomnia, pain, and inflammation.

Yield: 25.3g ~ 0.9 oz

Verdict:

Just under 7 oz total. Was expecting at least 11, so yield was definitely disappointing (I didnt veg forever, but even so). However, the quality is top-notch. Your experience may vary, but personally I found the Amherst Sour Diesel to be slow growing and below avg yielding, but with excellent flavor, potency, and character of effects. Definitely up there with some of the best diesels ive sampled. One hit will have you soaring, finding joy in everything, sporting a shit-eating grin for the duration of your flight. Good for head stash if you get the right pheno (my pheno #1 imo is the one to look for).

And now without further delay, the bud porn! :yummy:

Awesome journal icy! Reps for the detailed description of each plant. I would love to yield alot on each plant but if I had to choose I would take a few quality buds over a ton of average ones. Definitely keep us informed on your next crop!!

Thanks for tuning in Jgrow. Totally agree man, at the end of the day, its all about the medicine. That said.. doesnt hurt to hunt for the best of both worlds :). You never know what sort of gems are still waiting to be found in the vast cannabis genetic pool..

The NL#5 crosses are getting established while I set up my new room..new journal to come soon!

peace
