LoLIsh's Dutch Passion Orange Bud & Ortega Indica - Indoor CFL - Soil

Hello everybody! I hope all is well with everyone.

So I am back with some feminized seeds I got, Dutch Passions Orange Bud and Ortega Indica.

I am using 8 26w CFL's, for a total of 208 real watts, all are 5300k. However, right now I am only using Four. Until the plants get bigger, I'm going to keep them on two each, then they'll have 4 each.

I am using *ugh* Super Soil's Moisture Advantage soil. Not too proud of this, but it's all I've got for now.

Nutrients are Miracle Grow's grow nutes, Earth Juice's Verde Fire Bloom nutes, and Earth Juice's Catalyst.

This is how they will be when they get taller, each having their own set of lights.

This is how they are now. The Orange Bud Is on the Right, and the Ortega Indica on the Left. The Ortega Indica has already sprouted within 24 hours or planting them.

Stick around for a while, wont you?:420::420:

Hey everybody, back here with another update. The kids are about a week or so old now, and are doing great.

Ortega Indica on the left, and Orange Bud on the right. I'm suprised the Orange Bud isn't taller yet, but it will be. I need to invest into a small fan so I can get some air movement.

Well, it seems I have a problem here. I'm pretty sure it's the crappy soil I used, so I transplanted them into Miracle Grow's Organic Choice soil. I've heard some good things, although I would have rather gotten Fox Farms Ocean Forest like I normally do, but money's a little tight, so $4 for a small bag of the MG Organic sounded better than ~$12 for FFOF.

But I don't know exactly what this deficiency is. I've read about a lot of them, and I don't know what it is. The leaves started getting pale towards the tips, then the leaves started getting the spots in the middle. I've heard the spots is a P problem, but I've also heard that the leaves get dark green, not pale. Could it be heat? It's not really hot in the closet they are in, and it's not right on the light, so the light shouldn't be burning it. I wonder if it's stress from running the lights 24/7. Maybe I should kick my timer on for an 18/6 cycle.

Help please!

Today, they look worse, after they've been transplanted for almost 24 hours. The Ortega Indica is by far worse than the Orange bud, but the OB is only like a day behind it from starting the spots. Today, the leaves are drying, and curling up. The new growth looks pale, but no spots. I've never dealt with a plant deficiency, and I always wondered when I was going to, lol. Oh, and plus, their growth has been stunted. They haven't grown any taller in 4 days. Still the same height from my last photo I uploaded.

So, any help would be most awesome! :thumb:

Hi LoLIsh,

The yellowing looks like a Nitrogen deficiency but they are way too young to start giving them nutes.

Do you know what the ph of your water is ? If it is too acidic or if the soil is too acidic the nitrogen could be ''locked out'' of the soil meaning the plant will not be able to absorb it.

Those burned spots on the leaves looks like nute burn which could be caused by the fertiliser that comes in the miracle grow, the concentration could be too high for the little seedlings to handle.

You should have spent the extra money and bought the fox farm, it would have saved you money in the long run.

I'm subbed

I hope everything works out for you

:peace:

I think it's the fact you put them a fertilized/nutrient heavy soil too early. Thats why they turning yellow. Next time try germinating them and sprout them in a peat pellet, and just use water. If its tap water, make sure you let it sit over night in a cup first. And test the ph.

Yeah mate, Mayb N def. Most soils have enuf nutes to sustain them for a while, maybe the lights are too close??I had mine about 3 inch from tops and that was fine.. Too close and it will cause bleaching still. Be careful adding nutes, in case its not a deficiency, move ur lite up a bit first, wait day or two.
I have my CFL;s on for 24/0 with no probs mate.. But i have MH and HPS once theyre bit bigger. Goodluk hope all sorts out!
Smokem..

Thanks for the reply folks. Well today they are looking a little better. They just woke up. They are two weeks old today, but only look like a week old. Stunted the growth by a week. But so far, the new growth looks alright. A little light, but not yellow. The other leaves are yellowing and dieing, but that's to be expected I suppose. Lesson learned, don't think cheap soil will be alright. Doh!

I just popped in too. I think the other folks hit the nail on the head. If you can get foxfarm products 50/50 light warrior and happy frog would be nice to start them in.

Hello folks. Back with an update. Thanks for all of the advise. Like I said in my last post, I gave them a little bit of N with this last feed, and it seems like they took well to it.

Here's the Ortega Indica. The first set of fan leaves got damaged pretty bad, but the newer fan leaves look healthier. More solid in color rather than fading like it was before.

And here's the Orange Bud. Hopefully it looks better in a day or so. The newer fan leaves did get burnt, and I hope they do recover.

Had it happen before to my grow, too much food to early, mine bounce back just took along time to see fast healthy growth. I used just a basic potting soil, my problem was i gave them to much food to early, maybe a transplant into different soil Im using coco coir right now for the first time and i find the growth faster then soil. :goodluck:

Marijuana seedlings are vulnerable to over fertilization (nutrient burn), whilst at the same time the nutrient free nature of most seedling mediums necessitates their addition before long. To avoid over fertilization, use either a specialist seedling feed or dilute a cannabis feed to ¼ strength.

Whilst not a fertilizer, it can be a good idea to give a diluted amount of RootBoost or similar to enable good root development in your young plants.

Hello folks. Well the girlies are doing just fine, bouncing back well. The dried up fan leaves on the Ortega Indica got plucked off, but the first set of fan leaves on the Orange Bud are recovering. They didn't dry up, so I'm not going to mess with them. The new leaves are starting to come out and in good color, and the plant is starting it's vertical journey again. Yay!
