New steps are being considered to boost Minnesota's medical marijuana program after manufacturers reported big losses last year.
Minnesota Medical Solutions reported a $3 million loss, and LeafLine Labs reported a $2.1 million loss. The CEO of Minnesota Medical Solutions said he expected those numbers to turn around once more patients sign up and once the start-up costs go down.
The Medical Marijuana Task Force is now reviewing the addition of nine new petitioned conditions. On Thursday, a public hearing discussed four of those conditions: schizophrenia, diabetes, phantom limb pain and autism.
Five other petitioned conditions will be discussed in a hearing later this month.
With new qualifying conditions added, officials believe more patients will sign up for cannabis treatment.
Medical marijuana became legal in Minnesota in July 2015.
