THE seizure of more than 200 cannabis plants from a suburban Sydney home may be connected to $5 million worth of plants seized earlier in the week, police say. Acting on reports of suspicious activity, police executed a search warrant at the home in Virgil Avenue, Chester Hill, in Sydney's southwest about 3pm (AEST) yesterday.

Officers seized 217 cannabis plants and hydroponic growing equipment from the house. A 51-year-old Chester Hill man faced Parramatta Bail Court today charged with supplying a prohibited drug and cultivating prohibited drug.

On Thursday police said they had cracked a major drug syndicate, seizing more than 1,400 cannabis plants from 10 hydroponic houses in Sydney's west with a total street value of $5m.

Police raided four homes on Thursday and last Saturday at Oxley Park, three at Colyton, two at St Marys and one at Mt Druitt. Three men aged 32, 35 and 40 were charged as a result of the raids, and a toddler was removed from one of the drug houses.

Police said yesterday they expected more raids would follow.

Today they said they were investigating the possibility that the Chester Hill cannabis-growing operation was connected to the properties raided earlier in the week. About 2000 high-quality plants worth more than $11 million were seized from ``hydro houses'' in the suburbs of Blair Athol, Bradbury and Auburn last month.
