Washington: Lawmakers Hear Testimony on Measures to Permit Home Cultivation

Legislation to allow adults to legally cultivate personal use amounts of marijuana is pending in the House and Senate.

Senate Bill 6083 permits adults to grow up to six plants per domicile. House companion legislation, H 2196, is also pending. Previously introduced Senate language that sought to permit home cultivation is presently tabled.
"This bill is about consistency, congruency and especially, freedom" said Rep. Brian Blake, who is sponsoring the measure in the House. "Adults in our state can brew their own beer and make their own wine for personal consumption. Just like alcohol, marijuana can be used safely and responsibly, so it makes sense to allow adults to home grow their own if they want to."

Members of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor held an informational hearing on November 20th, 2015 to hear testimony from the public. You can watch video from that hearing here.
