One thing to remember when selecting a ballast is that digital (or "e") ballasts tend to trip GFCI outlets/circuits. If you are plugging into one of these, go with a magnetic ballast.

Yea, that is exactly what I was thinking. If it helps with light penetration that is a good thing, if not then I just think that they are some sort of "throwback canning jars."

I just went and bought a bunch of jars for curing. I noticed that Ball has some that are blue and it got me thinking. When you get a prescription or even a beer and some hooch, they are in dark glass or plastic to help with light degradation.
Would this be the same case with the blue jars...
