IMO, it sounds like hes just not interested in a romantic relationship. Since he had smoked with you before, the weed thing sounds like a cop out. Trying to call it off with a former friend is always awkward.

I'm going the same start route of starting with bag seed. I like trying out different grow techniques and not feeling like i might be wasting some seed i've dropped bank on if i ruin the plant.
