OIC, I did misread it. You're saving the hassle of PHing the water and refeeding the plants by cooling the existing water. Makes much more sense now.

I thought of a similar idea using an ice pak (intended to keep lunch boxes cool), but I thought it may harm the roots that are in the water. Should I not worry about the cold object hitting the roots?
