You're right about green light being a good canopy penetration. Actually a very small amount bounces off the leaves, just a little more than other colors to give green appearance. Green, Yellow, and IR light are able to pass through the leaves and buds the best for penetration ability.

IR #1) Is the color that passes most through the plant #2) IR activates more photosystems in the plant a-la the Emerson Effect. HPS is very good at growing plants for this reason.

QB's are decent, but don't put out a lot of red/infrared. Additionally, the light is not directed, so it goes horizontally and requires a grow tent to reflect down to the plants, losing about 20% efficiency at that point. Cobs are good as well.

Your girls will be fine. I prefer 18/6 for veg, there is evidence out there that plants recover when the lights are off... Good luck!!

My advice would be to buy a lower powered high quality light, or get two lights. If you get two lights you can get more light uniformity and have the option of using it in multiple grow tents!
