A few plant breeders seem to be crossing a small fast auto variety with taller slower ones to achieve their hybrid seeds. That would explain the following statistics that I've been seeing.
1 in 4 plants will be around 1/2 ounce dry in 8 weeks 'from seed'
1 in 4 plants will be around 1.5 ounce...
Yes you're right, "transient AC getting to the ICs", may be giving them a short life of a couple of months.
I have 8 x 50 watt chips operating at the moment. Out of them two grow chips burned out and one warm white, over a period of three months.
Just in case it's just a thermal issue, I've...
If they are only seedlings then every two weeks is fine.
Otherwise once a week for well established plants.
Replacing 25% of the tank every second day works for me.
Bibles are great sources of sciencey info.. Zinc will be more mobile if there's the right amount of Phosphorus.
Calcium nitrate is best sought in a prilled-granule form, otherwise it tends to melt away into an icey slurry from a bit of humidity. Well that's been my experience anyway...
Zinc is also an immobile nutrient, though a few sources claim it's mobile.
Calcium can be used elsewhere by the plant, just not where the plant has developed a deficiency in those affected leaves.
In earlier years I did have the odd magnesium deficiency, which cleared up quite quickly with...
Using some additional Calcium Nitrate with Maxibloom has helped solve the issue.
The PH was creeping up over time, so a little phosphoric acid adjuster fixed that.
"therefore 100% of the energy introduced into the closed grow area becomes heat."
Not quite, though I agree with everything else said. For equivalent wattages, HPS and LED produce around the same amount of heat.
The more plants you have, the more light energy will be converted to chemical...
I'm making my 3rd panel with driverless COBs, each one is 200watt (50w times 4 chips).
They are super bright LEDs, so they must have a great power conversion factor.
The downside is the grow chip spectrum ones don't last long, at least not the ones that I got.
The colour looks fine, meaning the nutrient levels are good.
Leaves looking dull without a sheen or shine, as in not glossy are a sign of underwatering, in my experience.
It can take a week or so before seeing a bit of shine start to appear on youngest leaves, and lowest leaves.
