O i think i understand better about your light trap. you want air to get in but not let light out. Well what you could do there is make your hole and then try putting a few layers of black pantyhose over it. It should muffle the light enough for it to not be too recognizable.

ya diy carbon filters for small grow box generally work pretty well also just getting one thing of ONA gel should be enough for each grow you do. tea containers sound pretty legit good find. i wouuld suggest putting a 6 inch booster fan as your exhaust on the top of the box and maybe a 4inch...
