    1st Grow Cabinet

Home Depots in Canada carry Philips cfl's and 6500k are no problem to find in 23w and 42w sizes. I also found a source for 100w cfl's (big boys) made by a chinese company Luxite for about $15 CAD per bulb.

    1st Grow Cabinet

Hey man cool cabinet, I'm a noob looking for a similar set up...what brand/wattage/colour are the cfl's? What about the cabinet, where was it bought and for approx how much? I've seen things at home depot in both particle board laminate stuff and some somewhat rigid plastic, like garage cabinets...

    First Grow. Phototron box.

Crop looks fantastic WMWW, congrats on the yield. As for the T8's, you can get U-tubes that are T8 (same length/shape/pin configuration as your current U-tubes). Basically T12 tubes are the 1.5 inch diameter fluoro tubes that have been used for years. T8's are 1 inch diameter but they fit in old...

    Germination Question

Before I make my first attempt at germing some bag seeds, I need some pointers. I've read all the FAQs on germination but I have yet to read anything specific to temperature. As winter draws nearer temperatures outside are dipping down closer and closer to 0 Celsius (30-40 F now, in mid winter...

    Best brand of T-5's

Can't really go wrong with Phillips Alto T5s can you? Just get the lowest colour temp (2200k, 2700k) you can find and you'll be set.

Effects of Sound on MJ Growth Pattern

I worked inside wind turbines for a while and they definitely make noise. There is a distinct 'whooshing' sound as the blades whip around. However, it's no louder than cars passing on a nearby gravel or pavement road. The particular turbines I worked on (some by Siemens, some by GE) did not...

    First Grow. Phototron box.

these look delicious. question, what size fluorescents are in the box? T12's? An easy upgrade would be throwing T8 lamps and an electronic ballast in there if it doesn't already have it, either way your lady friends there look gorgeous, congrats man

    odor control quesion

many thanks +rep. so if i have a grow cabinet INSIDE of a closet, i could theoretically vent air from the grow box into an exterior carbon filter that just sits inside the closet right? with a smaller grow like this should I be overly concerned with having great ventilation and air flow coming...

I'm a newb with soil inquiries too... I have two half empty bags of potting soil kicking around my garage. Could I add perilite and/or vermiculite to them to create a suitable growing media? The first is President's Choice (Canadian no-name) The Perfect Mix all purpose lawn and garden soil. It...

What makes plants "short and bushy"

I'm sure this is blatantly obvious, and I'm a noob myself, but LST and Scrog techniques seem like key ways to get short and shrubby plants, it'll definitely be part of my first grow, especially with limited space to work with. When is the usual time to start tying plants down and using a screen...

Poor, CFL, Stealth, Maybe a Little Luck?

AmGrowR pointed me to your journal and I'm blown away. I'm going to be tackling a similar endeavour quite soon and will be using your journal extensively. Its incredible what can be done with a few CFLs, seems like a fantastic way to learn and that sweet bud is gonna be a nice bonus! enjoy and...

Need some pointers on first poor man's grow

Thanks AmGrowR your journal was helpful and encouraging, my situation won't be unlike yours and I'm going for the same results - experience, trial and error, any yield is a bonus. Your little guy really did sprout up quickly, I can only imagine how he would have done had he been under that CFL...
