Nice to make your acquaintance. I never did get the gh pump. I got an eco air 793gph pump and it did the trick with those bubblemac stones. I have since moved on from dwc to perlite hempy but i still use the pump and stones in my cloner. As for the stones... I got 4 of the 4inch long ones. They're still the best air stones ive been able to find. They cleanup like new with a short bath in muriatic acid.

Best advice i can give on dwc is keep your rez temps down. If you're only doing 1 or 2 buckets a pair of ice probes and a controller will work. Anything bigger and is investin a chiller. My $.02

I really appreciate this, I was trying to understand the best way to monitor the temps in the reservoir. What did you use specifically, was it diy or was it something like the IceProbe Thermoelectric Aquarium chiller?

Nm I see now, dang... that would make a big difference. I've been spending all my time reading and asking questions so I don't do a really bad job when I start. This kind of feedback is invaluable in hopefully saving time from making unnecessary mistakes so thank you.

Why the switch to pertile hempy? the cost of hydro is getting really high the more I learn about how to do it well but I'm afraid of bugs and other variables that are already in soil so I thought DWC would be superior. I'm sorry for the noob questions.

The ice probes are exactly what i used with an ink bird temp probe/controller.
I made the switch when i realized i could get the speed and size of dwc with the ease of hempy. Drain to waste is so simple. I had a kid and the time i could spend in my room was knocked down a bit. With hempy i spend 10-15 minutes a day watering and adjusting where i would get lost for hours in my buckets. Lol. Checking ph and temps and tds, topping off buckets, fighting slime... Ill answer anything i can to help out, man. This site was invaluable to me starting out. Eifleman was my dwc guru. Check out his threads if you havent already. Good guy and good grower.

Thank you!

Hempy makes more sense, I have been on it all day since you mentioned it. A lot more forgiving for a first time grower but similar benefits, much fewer variables than dwc. Not having to worry about reservoir temps or a air pump failing and killing everything makes a lot of sense. Any pointers on how to get started with hempy the right way would be great, the information on it is not as dense or consistent as dwc or other methods.

I was looking to grow Maui Waui, which is suppose to be an aggressive growing sativa.
Everything I have learned up till now has been about dwc so the names of the nutes or supplements that are being thrown around on hempy headquarters or other hempy threads are not familiar. A recommended starting place for good information would be super cool.

For example:

-Preffered LST ? It sounded like all Pertile made it harder to do lst
-Why all pertile and not coco + pertile or pertile + vermculite?
-Ideal bucket size? It sounds like a lot of people wish they had gone bigger.
-Ideal feeding schedule and recommended nutes?
-Anything you wish you had known when you first switched to hempy?
