Algae on Coco mat

If it aint one thiong, its another!!

My Cocomat has algae growing in some spots. Any suggestions?
Thought of some white plastic covering the exposed mat, (2x2 mat with two 6 inch rockwool cubes per square)

as you suggested, use some white plastic to cover your flood tray

use dark plastic as in black. White will still allow light through and allow algae to grow

Should I attempt to get rid of the existing algae before using the cover? (dont know how I could do that!!)

Is the algae stuff safe for out plants?

^^ I've not used it, but Pan4Gold ran it in his aero system - I think the bottle will say since there are lots of aquariums with plants.
