Ballast questions

Hey all !
quick question , I saw that there are few type of ballast .
one for hps ,
one for mh ,
and one that is duel for both .
Now I need a 400w ballast , but in my place there is no duel ballst ,
do I really need to buy both ballast ? I saw manny warnings that
I REALLY should'nt use an mh bulb on hps ballast and vice versa .
other option is im really lost in this subject !
I would really like if someone can help me figure it out ,

Hey there tomtom I am no prof of course, but I grow with one ballast and I use mh for veg, then hps for flower and have not had any problems dude. But that is my experience. Good luck buddy

Glad to hear you are not running into any problems !
wondering then why it says everywhere that you should not mix .
Do you know for what bulb your ballast was meant for ? maybe you can put one in the other ..

No probs buddy hope I can help. But the thing is I don't know the inner electrical point of it, I just brought mine for a 400w so I use with 400w hps and mh and have used for a second grow with no problems

As a rule...you want to match bulb to ballast(the exception being electronic dual ballasts)...I have heard there are some HPS lamps designed to run off MH ballasts...usually mixed lamp/ballast combinations that ignite will have a short life span...cheerz...h00k...
