Arizona - Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents seized 952 pounds of marijuana and a pickup truck in a pair of incidents, Thursday. Agents patrolling in Yuma observed several individuals carrying backpacks and crossing the Salinity Canal Bridge on County 14th Street. The group was heading toward a pickup truck parked on County 14th Street and the levee road. Agents responded to the area and all individuals dropped their backpacks and fled back to Mexico. The driver of the pickup truck absconded, as well. A search of the area revealed 20 bundles of marijuana scattered throughout the general area. The footprints of those absconding were tracked back to Mexico.

The marijuana had a combined weight of 509 pounds, worth an estimated $229,000. The marijuana was seized for destruction. The pickup truck was turned over to the Yuma County Narcotics Task Force. In a separate incident, agents patrolling near Wellton discovered 10 makeshift backpacks of marijuana. There were no footprints leading to or from the location of the marijuana and a search revealed no individuals. The marijuana had a combined weight of 443 pounds, and had an estimated value of $199,000.

The Mexicanos have seen the price of their bulk product (classic brown marijuana w 2% - 4% THC) tumble in price due to the pace at which Americanos are embracing more modern strains of high potent #MedMj manufactured indoors. They can't give away their pot any longer even for $25 USD bucks a kilo! Lament the poor illegal Mexican pot farmer, who must now switch to growing Poppies like the Afghanis in order to put a smidgen of bread and a glass of tea on his childrens' tables. Instead of destroying their catch, border patrol officers should be converting the bulk material seized into budder via high-pressurized extraction methods, and then testing that budder in the lab. If the resulting product proves pure, then perhaps there may be a place on the shelf for a more concentrated form of the traditional Mexican landraces. In the interim, expect hectares and hectares of previously planted Cannabis fields in Mexico to start to pump out Poppies at an even greater and alarming rate than simple pot ever did. Unfortunately, this transition for the Mexican economy will create a flood of supply of forever cheaper Poppy derived narcotics into the USA.
