Carbon filter and inline fan

Hey guys. Names Austin. I’m starting my first grow here shortly. I’ve been watching about every YouTube video, researching online, and trying to learn as much as I could about growing for the past year or so. I bought a tent on amazon it is a 36”x20”x63”. It was the one odd one that was perfect for my closet. I know the calculations that I must multiply the LxWxH. So basically I figured 3x2x5 to give a rough estimate which would be 30. I’m impatient. And I had already bought a fan and filter before doing this calculation. I got a 150cfm in-line and a 1050+ Filter. My question is are there to big for my tent size? I don’t want to suck the walls in. I can open the vents or just run extra ducting to maybe slow the air down. I also have a dial with it so I can put it on high medium or low as well. I just want the best chance for success here and smell is a very big concern which is why I knew I needed a filter for sure so instead of the booster fan I went with something a little more serious. My concern is my tent being to small.

This is the fan and filter I got

This is the tent as a whole. Also curious if I should water I haven’t since I planted them. The one did not sprout yet. It’s only the second full day since planting them. My light seemed a little low so I did adjust it higher after taking the pictures. Only about an inch though.

When adding ducting and filter, it can reduce a fans performance by upto 25%.
I think that fan with the controller will work well.
Yea doing the math I got that 3x2x5=30. They said I want air to circulate every 2 mins so I divide 30 by 2 and get 15. So at 150. If I slow it down all the way it will go at 50%. So should be 75. Then adding the filter which should also bring it down some the way I figure my air should circulate once every 30 seconds or less. So would you recommend I keep a vent open at the bottom? If so, at all times or certain times.

Hey Austin,
Great job doing math and calculations, I use very similar (if not identical mechanically) fans in 2 of my tents. I have a 4 inch and the 6 inch. I dont run a filter though because my house is full of green smoke all the time anyway. All of my tents have at least one port open at the bottom. My 5x5 has two open. (All the time). If your fan is the same quality as mine you will really enjoy it over the cheaper crapstraction fans on amazon.

You can always throttle the fan back as you know. The only thing with these filters is they require a certain minimum flow through them to be efficient at removing odor. When you get into flower you may have to turn it up. I flow way more air through my tents than the minimum flow they recommend.

Your set up is fine imo. I've been using similar fan and filter combo in my 32" x48"x60" veg tent for over a year now with no issues. If sides are sucking in a little it's not anything to worry about. Just open more flaps. If that doesn't work, it's still not a problem imo. Mine sucks sides in a little. Never been a problem. More fresh air the better

My fan sucks in the sides of my tent, negative pressure is great, it will contain the smell and make sure the air is exchanging.
I have to put in extra poles around the side of my tent to brace the sides, because my tent is only 80×80cm in the first place, I loose about 10cm grow space each side if not braced, but I deffo want to keep the negative pressure.

Lol see that’s what I initially thought. My research said negative pressure was good but on someone’s thread I seen someone say it was bad if the tent wall as sucked in. I’m sure it’s trial and error more than anything. it’s so fun but the time it takes these things to grow makes trial and error a betch.
