Commercial Ban For Medical Marijuana Zoning In Emmet County Postponed

A proposed amendment to ban commercial medical marijuana dispensaries was tabled Thursday night by the Emmet County commissioners.

The "compliance with law" amendment would require all commercial properties in Emmet County to uphold state and federal law. Under that provision, medical marijuana "compassion clubs" and other commercial venues would be in violation of federal laws prohibiting the use of marijuana.

Despite mixed opinions about how the medical marijuana community would be impacted, ultimately, a decision was tabled for one month to re-evaluate liability issues and the voters' intent.

The role call vote was 6-1 in favor of tabling the amendment. Emmet County Commissioner Leroy Gregory opposed tabling the issue.
