FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno County leaders will consider extending a moratorium against medical marijuana dispensaries.

The current ordinance bans new shops from opening in the county. If passed the extension would last another 22 months.

Sheriff Margaret Mims and public works officials will also present a plan to shut down dispensaries violating current zoning requirements.

15 medical marijuana dispensaries currently operate within the Fresno-Clovis area. Officials say only six of those are in areas zoned for pharmacies.
