State Representative Allen Peake isn't giving up hope for his new medical marijuana bill.

The lawmaker made the following post on his Facebook page Wednesday:

"I'm expecting the Georgia State House will pass SB 145 (formerly HB 722) on Thursday morning, and then the State Senate will have a chance to agree on this bill that will add Autism, Tourette's, AIDS, EB, peripheral neuropathy and PTSD to the list of eligible medical conditions that could legally possess medical cannabis oil. C'mon Senate, let's help hurting Georgians have a better life!! Agree to the bill as is on Thursday!!"

As a procedural move to keep the bill alive, Peake attached his bill to Senate Bill 145. This happened after Senator Renee Unterman, Chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, refused to have a hearing on House Bill 722.

Thursday is the last day of the 2016 legislative session. It's the last chance for the bill to make it to Governor Nathan Deal's desk to be signed into law. Peake expects the day to run until midnight. He plans to do everything he can to see this bill pass both the House and the Senate.

When it was first introduced, HB 722 included a model for growing marijuana for medical purposes in Georgia. Peake maintained this was the next step to helping Georgians who are suffering from medical conditions that can be treated by medical cannabis. The House Judiciary Non Civil Committee removed the model a few weeks ago after multiple hearings. The chairman claimed it was too controversial and he wanted to make sure a bill passed this session that would help more people. The committee issued a substitute bill which added to the conditions that can use medical marijuana to treat their symptoms.
