Efforts to revive the industrial hemp crop here in Kentucky will be spear-headed by a new chairman.

Under the new state law Agriculture Commissioner James Comer had to step out of the role as chairman of the Kentucky Industrial Hemp Commission.

Harrison County farmer Brian Furnish was elected as the new chairman. Industrial hemp will only be farmed in the state if the federal government lifts its prohibition of the plant, which is banned for its relation to marijuana.
