Hortilux Bulb OK?

Hi, I just got this Hotilux Super HPS Enhanced spectrum lamp from a friend. It has a sticker on the front saying LU 400S/HTL/EN 400 Watt, Use with S51 Ballast.

I have a 430 MH conversion bulb that I'm vegging with right now. So, this is where I need you guys...my ballast has a sticker saying Use HPS ED bulb. And my Hood has a sticker saying Use 1000 watt HPS lamp. Use with S52 Ballast.

So, does anybody know what the effects will be if I use a S51 Type lamp in a S52 ballast?

Thanks!

Re: Hortilux Bulb OK???

I think S51 is just the ANSI # (American National Standards Institute)

A 400 watt HPS bulb would have the ANSI # of S51 while a 1000 watt bulb would have the ANSI # of S52. IT works the same for the ballast. Your saying your ballast has a ANSI # of S52, that would mean your ballast is 1000watts. Does it say 1000 watts anywhere on your ballast? If it is a 1000 watt ballast, then that ballast would blow your bulb. Don't wanna do that, your bulb is worth around $100. Please anyone, correct me if I'm wrong. I very well could be.
