Illinois - Push To Decriminalize Pot Continues

The campaign to continue the decriminalization of marijuana came to the Capitol. How is the rollout coming for the four-year pilot program for medical marijuana? "Very slow," says Dan Linn, Illinois executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. "We expected this to be about a year of bureaucracy and drafting the rules and regulations, which is good for the state in terms of making sure it's being done very professionally ... but it's tragically inhumane for patients who are waiting to get access to this medicine to tell them it won't be available for another year."

Recreational pot use is already legal in Colorado and Washington, and Linn says he is confident that it's only a matter of time before Illinois make it legal as well. Another thing to promote: industrial hemp. Linn's display table included cereals, clothes and other items made from hemp, which some lawmakers, Linn says, are skittish to adopt because of its similarity to marijuana.
