Indica vs Sativa

Cannabis sativa , is a tall plant, generally between 8 and 12 feet. The leaves have long thin fingers and are light green. The more equatorial varieties have more yellow pigments to protect the plant from intense light. Sativa buds are long and thin and turn red as they mature in a warm environment. In cooler environments the buds may be slightly purple. Sativa plants smell sweet and fruity and the smoke is generally quite mild. It is a source of fiber for rope and other products and it contains THC which gives smokers the psychic effects they seek. The leaves of this plant are smoked but the most highly prized part of the plant is the top.

Cannabis indica, is plentiful in the Mideast, India, and Central Asia especially Afghanistan, Kashmire, and Pakistan. It is a short plant, generally between 3 and 6 feet, and its leaves have short broad fingers. The leaves are generally dark green sometimes tinged with purple. As they near maturity, the leaves may become significantly more purple. It is a strong smelling plant with a "stinky" or "skunky" smell. The smoke of indicas is generally thick and more prone to cause coughing when inhaled. Indicas are the traditional source of hashish.

Cannabis ruderalis is a debated third variety of cannabis found in Russia, Poland, and other eastern Europen countries. Schultes classified cannabis as having three species: sativa, indica, and ruderalis based on the formation of the seed pods. There is some debate as to whether there is justification for this third category. Some features of ruderalis are large seeds, short weedy plants (4-6 feet tall) and a lower level of thc than sativas or indicas.

Urded,

Certainly not new to marijuana here and I research as much as I possibly can, but something still stunts me. I prefer a sativa, but I've noticed that two mostly sativa plants that are relatively equal potency-wise can cause completely different effects. For instance, one mostly sativa strain can actually make one more relaxed but at the same time more energetic and possibly even able to concentrate better. However, another similar mostly sativa strain may cause an amphetamine-like rush where you may panic (if not a seasoned smoker), and are basically in an anxiety-filled, confused state. Even though the two strains may be fairly similar in characteristics and even THC content, what causes the two completely different highs in a sativa?

Case in point, after smoking a couple years continuously, I got my hands on some organic Haze. Original Haze. The grower supplied me with a little free of charge (as he always does) to sample after about a month cure. Smelled beautiful, looked beautiful, etc. This stuff made me feel like I was on speed. My heart was racing and I was doing everything at 100mph. I couldn't even finish one task without forcing myself to start on another. Of course, Original Haze is pretty much 100% sativa. But shortly thereafter (well, a couple months) the same grower supplied me with some Kali Mist. Another almost 100% sativa, but with this smoke I just had a complete feeling of euphoria. Not a single negative thought entered my mind. I was full of energy, could concentrate better than sober, and was in a fantastic mood even after I came down.

Same thing with Indicas. I'm not a fan of Indicas, but I've had my share. I've smoked Romulan (almost all Indica) and seriously felt like I just did a line. I actually went out and sprinted around the neighborhood. Then I've smoked another all Indica, Hindu Kush, and couldn't even find motivation to get off the couch to get my now overcooked food off the stove.

What type of stone/ high are you looking for? There are two basic types: the first is a ‘body stone’ that knocks you down and holds you there, which is synonymous with INDICAS. A second type of stone is a trippy cerebral high, often associated with SATIVAS.
This depends how the chemical compounds mix and interact with each other.
This also effects taste and smell. The potency is just a measurement of thc.
The high is like a different recipe for a different strain.
I am no chemist or bio boy so this is the best I know how to explain it when I am high.

I have a question on this subject. As someone who works in the medical field, I've often woundered how much a persons indevidual body chemistry plays a part in the high you experience. Just for instance... I am a strong type B personality, and my spouce has more type A traits than I do, though I wouldn't call her anal or neurotic. We can split a joint, and where I want to get busy and stay busy, all she wants to do is veg out and read a book. So if the same smoke effects people differently, how does one go about finding a strain they really like when the reviews are odviously very objective?

So many strains, so little time!!!!!!!

But seriously folks, different highs occur to same strains by simply using different soil, nutes, early or late harvest, where it's grown, any number of factors.

so keep searching the the perfect high, it's a lifelong road, and when ya find it, Nervana!
