Iowans against the legalization of marijuana took their concerns to lawmakers.

A group of Iowa Republicans last week backed a bill that would allow medical cannabis oil to be made and distributed throughout the state.

The Alliance of Coalitions for Change said it doesn't want marijuana to end up in the wrong hands, namely Iowa's youth.

"With the medical component, there are two pieces of marijuana: THC makes you high, and what we're finding is that there's extracting of that, which is really kind of a scary thing," Iowa Alliance of Coalitions for Change Angie Asa-Lovstad said. "When you extract that, you have an oil which makes it a potency rate of about 80 percent."

The bill being debated would expand the medical conditions that would be eligible to use cannabis oil. Currently, only patients with a severe form of epilepsy can legally possess it for treatment.
