A MAN caught growing cannabis plants at his Bridlington home has been jailed for 28 days by magistrates.
Paul Thomas, 32, of Marshall Avenue, appeared before magistrates in Bridlington last Wednesday, to plead guilty to a charge of possessing cannabis plants.
Jane Wilson, prosecuting, told the court: "On July 18, officers attended Thomas' home address, and when they looked inside they located four cannabis plants in the flat, and a further plant outside on the landing.
"They were too young to provide a yield, and were between 12 to 30 centimetres, 30 being the tallest.
"He was interviewed, and admitted growing the plants for his own personal use, and is aware it is an offence to do so."
Thomas, who is currently serving a three-and-a-half year jail sentence for
commercial burglary, had a previous record for possession of cannabis from December 2004.
Brian Jepson, mitigating, told
the court Thomas had grown the cannabis to feed his habit.
Sentencing, presiding magistrate Martin Dodgson told Thomas: "We impose a
custodial sentence in order that when you come out there is nothing residual.
"You should come out with a clean record with nothing for the future."
He was given the 28 day jail sentence to run concurrently to his present sentence.
