Marijuana Legalized in Washington DC

A 13 member council in Washington DC voted Tuesday to allow the medical use of marijuana within the District of Columbia.

The councils decision to allow the medical use of marijuana will give the mayor the authority to choose 8 dispesaries within the District of Columbia, where patients can obtain marijuana for their medical conditions. Those patients would first need to see a doctor, and obtain a prescription for their marijuana. Qualifying medical conditions would include HIV, glaucoma, cancer, and chronic diseases.

Upon obtaining a prescription for the medical marijuana, patients would be able to receive up to 2 ounces of pot per month. The council also gave the mayor the authority, at his discretion, to increase the 2 ounce limit to 4 ounces.

Unless the US House and Senate pass a joint resolution (no pun intended) to stop this, and get it signed by the President, Washington DC residents could be smoking their marijuana legally in less than 30 days.

If US legislators don't put the brakes on this law, Washington DC would join California and 13 other states that allow the medical use of marijuana.
