The Denver City Council has given final approval to a ban on some kinds of medical marijuana advertising.

The ordinance approved Monday prohibits most kinds of outdoor marijuana ads. Billboards, bus-stop placards and roadside sign spinners would all be banned.

The measure would still allow print ads and radio and television ads, but they would have to include the disclaimer that marijuana products are for registered Colorado medical marijuana patients only.

The Denver Post reports the vote to pass the measure was unanimous (Outdoor advertising for medical marijuana banned in Denver - The Denver Post).

A preliminary version passed 13-0 last week. Some marijuana businesses support the ban because they say some advertising feeds a perception that marijuana is being used recreationally. Other marijuana businesses say the ban hurts small shops that can't afford newspaper or radio ads.
