Like governments in cities throughout Michigan, the Ludington City Council is scheduled to consider imposing a moratorium on medical marijuana sales until zoning issues can be ironed out.

"Basically, it's just to give our planning commission time to figure out the best way to regulate medical marijuana," City Manager John Shay said about the moratorium is recommending that the council approve.

Shay said many other communities, including Manistee and Pere Marquette Township, have already approved similar moratoriums.

He is recommending the council establish a six-month moratorium on the issuance of licenses, permits or approvals for the sale or dispensation of medical marijuana.

The council is scheduled to consider action on the issue when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday at city hall, 400 S. Harrison St.
