Medical Marijuana Veto
 Should Be Overridden

This week the Obama administration finally put it in writing: federal authorities will not arrest or prosecute medical marijuana users and suppliers who aren't violating state laws.

The time is right for New Hampshire lawmakers to override Gov. John Lynch's veto of HB 648, a wimpy little medicinal cannabis measure that he himself had helped to water down.

Managing a chronic illness is a uniquely private undertaking. Since it isn't possible for lawmakers to understand that personal struggle (because nobody can), then who are they to pass judgment on the responsible use of cannabis as part of a responsible health care management routine?

Ailing patients shouldn't have to give a crap about the sociopolitics of cannabis containment. They feel like crap and just want to be left alone to safely manage their pain in any way they see fit.

It is remarkable that with all the talk about the need for affordable, safe and effective health care, we still treat cannabis as a law and order issue.

New Hampshire lawmakers: Do it. Help move us forward, back to a time when patients had a right to choose cannabis for relief and healing.
