THREE men caught red-handed as they allegedly attempted to steal marijuana plants netted in Victoria's biggest drug bust have been charged with theft offences.

Police would not confirm what was stored at the Collingwood police logistics facility for security reasons but confirmed three men were arrested after they were allegedly caught breaking into the building about 10.15pm on December 3.

Police will allege the trio was apprehended during their break in, which resulted in nothing being taken from the premises.

It is believed the men were trying to steal about 9000 marijuana plants seized as part of Operation Entity last month.

The drugs bust, which police say was the biggest blitz in Victoria's history, saw thirty people arrested as part of raids on 68 homes across Melbourne.

A police spokeswoman said security measures within the facility alerted police to the presence of the alleged thieves.

A 22-year-old Heidelberg West man, a 20-year-old North Fitzroy man and a 20-year-old Mill Park man have been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on February 18
