NJ Hospital Group Wants To Sell Medical Marijuana

New Jersey's teaching hospitals are promoting a plan that would make them sole dispensers of medical marijuana under the state's new law legalizing its use for certain chronic conditions.

The New Jersey Council of Teaching Hospitals wants to invest the proceeds in training new doctors.

Under the plan, Rutgers University's School of Environmental and Biological Sciences would grow the crop.

The Christie administration is still trying to work out the details of New Jersey's legal medical marijuana program.

Before the hospital's plan could be adopted, the sponsors of the original medical marijuana law would have to agree to amend it. Sen. Nicholas Scutari said he likes the concept but isn't crazy handing Rutgers and the hospitals monopoly control forever.
