A Superior Court judge sentenced marijuana activist Ed "NJWeedman" Forchion Wednesday to two years probation and ordered him to pay a $2,500 fine for his conviction last year for possession of a pound of pot during a traffic stop.

The case sparked debate of New Jersey's medical marijuana law with Forchion, who claims dual citizenship in Pemberton Township and Los Angeles, believed to be the first defendant in the state be allowed to present his use of medical marijuana as a defense in a criminal trial.

Forchion was convicted last May of possession, but the jury was hung on the more serious distribution charge. A second trial, with a new jury, acquitted him of that charge in October.
