A new marijuana business has opened on George St. in downtown Peterborough.
Cannabis Culture is now operating in the city core.
It's the local branch of a chain of Cannabis Culture stores, with locations in Toronto and Vancouver.
"We have spoken to the owner and will be continuing to monitor the situation," city police spokeswoman Lauren Gilchrist said Tuesday night.
The business sells marijuana to customers over 19 with no medical prescription required, according to its website.
"Anybody over the age of 19 can purchase marijuana from the store," Peterborough store owner Richard Standen said.
Some marijuana dispensaries in Canada sell marijuana and other cannabis-related products to people with medical prescriptions for the drug.
The federal Liberal majority government is planning to introduce legislation next spring to legalize recreational marijuana use in Canada, following up on a campaign promise by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the 2015 federal election campaign.
