A seven acre medical marijuana growing site in Tiverton is getting down to the business of growing marijuana after three-years of development.

Advanced Medical Marijuana Canada or AMMCan, a division of Supreme Pharmaceuticals, showed off their facilities in the Bruce Energy Centre to a group of dignataries and media.

The President and CEO of Supreme, John Fowler says before the week is out, they'll start growing 10 varieties of medical marijuana.

The growing process needs to be approved by the federal government as well before they get their licence to actually sell the product.

Fowler says they hope to have their licence late this year or early next year.

Using only a portion of the plant, Fowler says they have approval to cultivate some 6,000 plants.

He says when they've expanded into the entire plant, they will be growing around 200,000 plants producing some 40,000 kilograms of medical marijuana.

The President of AMMCan Peter Herberger says they've spent around five-million-dollars to upgrade the former greenhouses at the Bruce Energy Centre.

Herberger says when the plant is in full production, well over 100 local employees will be on the job.

Kincardine Mayor Anne Eadie, who was on hand for the official opening, says she's pleased AMMCan chose to invest in the municipality and she hopes others will follow suit.

Fowler says the cooperation between Kincardine and themselves has been top notch, saying the community is one of the "best places to do business in Ontario."
