Opinions on 400w grow light-eBay

There's what I was looking at, [edit: 400 watt switchable HPS-MH] but have a few questions as this will be a budget-breaker for me if its not what I need!

1) How much power should I expect something like this to pull? A noticeable difference in my monthly use? If I replaced all bulbs in my home w/CFLs, would it even out?

2) Anyone used HTGSupply before? Any experience with buying lights off eBay?

3) Is this a good price? :smokin:

Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to 420>
At 400w x 18 hrs per day = 7200 watts per day: or 7.2KW x (cost per KH) = net cost per day I.. 7.2 x .10(pkh) = 72 cents per day> x 30 days = 21.60 per mth

Replacing incandecents with CFLS is good to do I have> I pay .45/KH here on Hawaii>

No I have not used High Tech Garden before> if this is aused system I would be leary of it> Their website seems like you can contact them direct>

No, its not used (claims all is completely new). Also- I won't be ordering from them online as I just discovered their physical shop isn't (too) far from me. Was planning on using only CFLs for now since I am on a budget and only plan on growing a few plants at a time, but when I saw this for $169 I thought I'd ask if this would be a preferred lighting system. Guess I know what I'll be asking Santa for this year :)

You can spend a few more bucks and get a vented hood... HTG is good, I have ordered a lot of stuff from him and have never had a problem.. I would love to have them close to me... I'd be there all the time..:peace:

yes, yes, yes, htg was grade a to deal with ! i got a good deal, good light, good ship time great packaging, dl label n billing. i think if you look you shall find them on the approved vendor list.:peace::peace::peace::grinjoint:

HTG is a great place to get your lights.I will say though that you can get a better deal if you got to the web site instead of buying it from ebay.

HTG supply's website is cheaper than their auctions on ebay, check out MGS supply as well on ebay, I got a 600w lumatek ballast, sunleaves arcticsun 6'' air cooled ballast with 15 foot cord and socket and HPS bulb for $279 shipped, most places sell the ballast alone for $230-$250 so they have great prices...

Call me crazy but I didn't see anything about a ballast, just the light and reflector. I would suggest just getting a dedicated HPS ballast with a decent bulb and using CFLs for vegging or going to htgsupply.com and order straight from them if what 311stoner says about their prices is true. I only use CFLs for vegging after my MH went out one day. I found out that MH use way more energy, burn way hotter, and are more expensive that CFLs. MH is a waste in my opinion when growing on a smaller scale.
