Police found more than 150 cannabis plants following a raid at a farm near Brampton.

Officers made the seizure during searches at Halton Lea Gate area, just over the Cumbria-Northumberland border, yesterday.

A man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of cultivating the drug. They were being quizzed by detectives today.

The RSPCA was also called in after a number of animals were found “in a poor condition”, said a police spokesman.

No charges had been made this afternoon.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “A search warrant was executed at a farm at the Halton Lea Gate area on Wednesday afternoon.

“Northumbria’s area support group attended, supported by local officers.

“Inside a barn at the farm was a significant quantity of cannabis, believed to be in excess off 150 plants.”

Neighbours reported seeing officers in white boiler suits at the farm during the police investigation.

The spokesman added: “A man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis. They are currently in custody helping with enquiries.”
