Sand against Gnats?

Ok well what if I got fungus gnats and I use two inches of sand as a means of preventing larvae from carrying on the life cycle. Will the sand have any bad effects like absorbing my nutes.

If you have gnats, your soil doesn't have enough drainage or aeration. You need to add more perlite at the least.
