Two Sonoma County supervisors will hear public comment this evening at a town hall discussion of medical marijuana regulation in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The Medical Marijuana Ad Hoc Committee, comprised of Supervisors Susan Gorin and Efren Carrillo, will hear feedback on the safety, health, environmental and economic impacts of marijuana cultivation as part of the
county's proposed medical marijuana policy.

A recently signed state law, the California Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act, currently contains a March 1 deadline for local jurisdictions to regulate marijuana cultivation.

However, state legislators have said the deadline was mistakenly included as a holdover from previous drafts of the bill the governor signed into law and said they are seeking to remove it.

The full Board of Supervisors is scheduled on Feb. 2 to discuss an urgency ordinance that reaffirms existing cultivation regulations to assure local policy is not superceded by the state, county spokeswoman Rebecca
Wachsberg said.

The Board of Supervisors also will give direction on further marijuana policy, a process that is expected to develop over 18 months that include public hearings and comment, Wachsberg said.

The town hall meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Auditorium at 1351 Maple Ave. in Santa Rosa.
