The New Mexico Department of Health has opened the request for applications period for the licensing of nonprofit producers for the Medical Cannabis Program.

Currently there are 23 licensed non-profit producers in the program, which are located throughout the state. No new licensed producers have been added since 2010.

Applications and information can be obtained on the website at nmhealth.org/go/mcp. The health department will accept applications until 4:30 p.m. May 1.

The department also published new rules Feb. 27 in the New Mexico Register. The department increased the maximum number of plants that an LNPP can grow from 150 to 450.

The changes are made to increase the availability of medical cannabis to qualified patients in the Medical Cannabis Program. Currently, there are 20 qualifying conditions to get in the program and 13,310 patients.
