Competition is grim, as six nursery businesses have applied for the only medical marijuana dispensing organization in Southwest Florida. In order to have an edge over the other and increase the selection chance, the setups have been approaching experts of this field in the Sunshine State and cultivation professionals from Colorado.

Experts explained that the state is divided into five regions and one license will be allotted per region. Twenty-four nurseries have submitted 28 applications. There are six applicants for one of the regions, Southwest Florida, and they are in LaBelle, Arcadia, Sarasota, two in Ruskin and Homestead.

For application part, nurseries needed to pay a non-refundable fee of $60,063 to the Florida Department of Health’s Office of Compassionate Use by July 8 and by early October, the selections will most probably be done.

In order to be eligible, officials said that the nurseries should be operating for at least three decades and have an inventory of 400,000 plants. These nurseries are specialists in different crops. The panel will made selections on the basis of different factors like cultivation, 30%; processing, 30%; financials, 20%; dispensing, 15%; and medical director, 5%.

After selections are done and license is given, nursery will get 60 days to cultivate cannabis crops and 150 more days will be given to offer the medicine for sale. The nurseries will be allowed to grow marijuana that is low in tetrahydrocannabinol, but high in cannabidiol that calms seizures.

Though Gov. Rick Scott has signed the Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act into low in 2014, legal challenges delayed it.

I see this as a set up for only the rich get to become the mob leaders in this market where if they would just reschedule to natural food products which has regulations they want it would be the right way for everyone concerned and would help many disadvantaged enrich their quality of life. The officials need to show they are concerned to help all citizens not show how they are corrupt in working only for the big businesses.

It's the Florida Cartel!!! They have had plenty of time to reflect and make good decisions. Other states have shown what not to do. It's time for one of our political officials to flip the script and do this the right way before "we the people" put it to a vote!!
