Epilepsy patients in Texas can now sigh a sign of relieve after the Texas House gave its final approval to a Senate bill that would allow them access cannabidiol oil. A rigorous discussion between two doctors, a lawyer, the mother of a child with epilepsy and a man with a pain disorder before the House, Gov. Tom Wolf necessitated the approval.
Wolf felt obliged to decriminalize marijuana use from a conviction of various reasons. To begin with, he argued that doctors should be allowed to run their operations and prescriptions because they know what is best for their patients. All that is required now is to convince people to do the right thing.
However, even with Wolf's arguments and convictions, the bill that passed overwhelmingly in the Senate is now at the mercy of Gov. Greg Abbott. It is not clear whether he will sign it having indicated earlier on that no marijuana-related legislation would be decriminalized.
Meanwhile, if the bill is passed by the House, doctors will be at liberty to prescribe medication for various conditions including the post-traumatic stress disorder.
Most parents with children who suffer from dozens of epileptic seizures have cited their frustration with traditional medication. They are however optimistic that CBD oil will control these conditions.
Nevertheless, Rep. Matt Baker, R-Tioga who is the chairman of the House Health Committee and which the bill has been assigned has a mixed feeling. He has expressed his doubts about how safe marijuana is for use. The same has been echoed by Rep. Larry Phillips, R-Sherman, who says the bill about CBD oil should first be ascertained by U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
From Preliminary studies, CBD oil decreases seizures but more data is required according to the Pennsylvania Medical Society. The use of the oil has been supported by House Majority Leader Dave Reed, R-Indiana who has insisted that it must be regulated at every level.*edit*
