Kevin Mannix, former Head of the Oregon Republicans has gotten his Crimefighter Act on the Ballot. This Measure will bring higher penalties for m**h use, longer sentences for sex crimes against children, give tax credits for donating money to m**h treatment centers, fight property crime with a three strikes clause, and buried in the middle of it (section 10) is the overturn of the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act (OMMA) and referral of all patients currently in the program to pharmaceutical alternatives like Marinol or Cessamet.
Mannix is well funded and has had the press already give him and his LEO friends plenty of free air time to push this bill, and they are always careful NOT to mention the overturn of OMMA. Cannabis activists fought back with a media campaign of our own, including blogging and letters to the Editor of papers across the State. We thought we had him beat, but he managed to get it on the ballot for November.
If this ploy is successful, expect to see it in other medical marijuana states.
