Lexington, NC - Two South Carolina football players were arrested early Sunday morning and charged with simple marijuana possession.

Sophomore linebacker Josh Johnson, 20, and sophomore defensive back Ty Erving, 20, were spotted in a parked car not far from the university around 12:05 a.m., according to a police report.

The officer saw the car with its windows partially open, smelled marijuana and ordered Johnson, Erving and 18-year-old Justin Johnson out, according to the report.

A search of the vehicle found a small amount of marijuana and all three were cited, according to the report.

The athletics department should receive a copy of the incident report Monday. Athletic director Mike McGee will review it before deciding whether the players should be disciplined, spokeswoman Michelle Schmitt said Sunday night.

Since the end of last season, nine other Gamecock football players have been arrested on charges ranging from domestic violence to grand larceny.
