Senate Bill 326 would allow medical marijuana in the state of Alabama. The bill, known as The Alabama Medical Marijuana Patient Safe Access Act, passed a senate committee April 22. SB326 can now head to the full Senate for debate.

Senator Bobby Singleton is sponsoring the bill. Currently, possession and use of marijuana is illegal in Alabama. The bill would allow for medical use for qualifying patients.

Patients must meet one of 25 specific illnesses including AIDS, anorexia, cancer, chronic pain, Parkinson's disease, and other chronic illness.

Right now the bill is not on the Senate agenda.

Saturday, May 2, protestors with Alabama Safe Access Project will meet in front of Vestavia City Hall. They want Senator Jabo Waggoner, the Rules Chairperson, to put the bill on the Senate agenda before the end of the regular session. That protest will start at 1 p.m.
